Acclaimed director to judge at Kolkata Filmfest

TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) – Renowned Iranian filmmaker Marzieh Riahi has been appointed a jury member of NETPAC at The 21st edition of the KIFF.

Iranian documentary maker Marzieh Riahi has been announced in the jury panel of the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) at the 21st edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).

The nine-day-long event is scheduled to kick off on Sunday and will be the venue to screen 149 films of 137 directors from 61 countries.

Last year, the Best Film Award of the festival went to Tales by Rakshan Banietemad from Iran.

This edition of the event will screen three works of Iranian cinema; Nahid by Aida Panahandeh along with two works of Jafar Panahi.

Founded in 1995, the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is an annual film festival held in India’s Kolkata and is organized by the West Bengal Film Centre under the West Bengal Government. It is the second oldest international film festival in India.

The international competition section of the festival was inaugurated last year to celebrate films by women directors of the world.

The Royal Bengal Trophy will be handed to the winner at the closing ceremony of the festival.

Marzieh Riahi is known for her documentary film Immigrant is a bird which narrates the story of Afghan children of labor who live in Iran and are supported by an Iranian benevolent lady to study at school.
